Steps for the production of the Savonius Turbine

Steps Images
1. Carefully we cut the plastic tube (bottle/PET) into two semi-cylinders at the wanted dimensions. Make the two blades of the turbine. The two pieces have to be identical.
2. Cut two circles in the lamina of wood. These pieces have to be perfectly round, to assure a perfect rotation of the turbine.
3. One of the wheels made of lamina of wood has to have a duct for transmission belt.
4. Make a hole exactly in the centre of the two wheel laminas for them to have a good grip on the bicycle hub.
5. Draw one middle line on each of the two wheels.
6. Place the blades on one wheels respecting the line. Mark the position with a pencil
7. Draw the wheel and the line that you draw on a piece of paper and put it in mirror on the other wheel.
8. Make signs in the place where the blades will be hanged with clips on the lamina.
9. Assemble the wheel and the laminas under the form of a vane wheel.
10. To assure a good equilibrium of the construction, it is essential that the middle of each wheel to be on top of the other. Place a wooden axel straight through the hole of the two wheels at 90° angle. Support the construction with a wooden frame.
11. Mount the bicycle hubs on the two wheels, place the transmission belt on the wheel with the duct and the vane wheel is completed.
12. Build the frame of the vane wheel, but don’t secure yet the top part.
13. The two hubs can be secured to the frame with the help of two identical screw nuts.
14. The assembly can be put on a pillar
15. Mount the dynamo on the frame and assure the connection with the transmission belt.
16. Our device – final form!!!
